To many idealistic statements to my mind

Corning had multiple innovations in related fields pre 1966, in particular fused silica to create pure Rosetta Stone Store glass used in telescope mirrors etc. By the 1960s they were the only foirm who could heat glass to 3600? which turns out to be needed to draw the fibres. 1966 the British Post Office meets with a Corning subsidiary to discuss needs in long-distance telecommunications, in particular use of glass. So between 1966 and 1970 Corning has to start learning about telecommunications. In contrast in 1970 ATamp,T were still struggling to understand the concept.Corning preparation was (he concludes) good but accidental, pre-adaptation explains the phenomena (good point here, but its still luck!) Conclusion is the preadaptation is key, but ability to draw on that preadaptation is also critical. Argues that you can enhance the likelihood of exaptation by taking and intermediate position between the core and the periphery as a way o increasing the likelihood and legitimising creative outcomes.Giovanni Pino on Exaptation: changing the core business of firms a strategic approach using the Abell matrixReporting a research program looking at changes to core business, creative potentiality and strategic implications. Customer Groups may determine the emergence way of understanding different uses of projects. Customer functions see changes over time (baking soda!), developing from broader Rosetta Stone Language knowledge and user experience. Technologies, phenomena like speciation and convergence, adaptation of exogenous and endogenous technologies. To many idealistic statements to my mind, smacks of two models being used without deep thought as to their compatibility. The list of what firms should do is nothing special, its just a list of "we will do better" type statements.Overall suggests that firms may hold a distorted vie of their business, have competencies that do not meet market demand and requirements. Exaptation allows firms to generate variety evolve creatively, enter new markets. Well honestly, you could make the same statement substituting anything for Exaptation. No reason (just an assertion) as to why the Abell matrix (a very tired model from the 1980s) was used. All I can say is thank God for coffee which is now available.Coffee over and I plan to sell tickets for the Peter Allen, Geoffrey Hodgson "discussion" this evening over dinner. First up after coffee is a presentation about collaborative innovation in ABB from Prof. Piotti.Traditional Rosetta Stone Portuguese innovation is a closed process, using internal knowledge, Ramp,D etc. ABB wanted to open it up in a profitable way.
